In 2013, Belgian researchers (Pickut et al.) studied 27 Parkinson's patients before and after an 8-week mindfulness meditation class. The results were remarkable. Not only did these individuals experience significant improvements in brain function, but the density of gray matter in their "flow state" caudate nucleus increased dramatically.


In layman's terms, this means that mindfulness meditation and flow are not only similar experiences, but the brain’s response to both is strikingly similar. If flow lights up the brain in the same way as meditation, strengthens key brain regions like meditation, and triggers euphoric feelings like meditation, then we might conclude that flow and meditation are intertwined on a neurological level.


This scientific evidence supports the timeless spiritual truth: the deep, meditative state, which has been known for millennia as a gateway to enlightenment and inner peace, also has profound creative and emotional benefits.


The brain’s ability to engage in both states—whether through meditation or flow—enhances creativity, emotional well-being, and spiritual growth.

Be water, my friend."
