The Practical Chinese Medicine Food Chart
237 foods read through classical Chinese Medicine (CM). Choose food by its effect, not by its nutrients.
Mathias Wolters, Pattern Diagnostician, 28 years of clinical practice in Chinese Medicine (CM).
237 foods in 13 categories. Meat, seafood, grains, vegetables, fruit, spices, oils and drinks. Each one read the same way.
A reason for every food. Every row ends with the signs that make it the right choice: cold limbs, dry cough, weak digestion.
Readable in seconds. A five-step temperature scale and short organ codes. Open it before you shop or cook.

How to read it
Four columns. One decision per food.
- Temperature
- Five steps from cold to hot. If you run cold, move your plate toward the warm end. If you run hot or dry, move toward the cool end.
- Action
- What the food does once eaten. Some foods build Qi and Blood. Some move what is stuck. Some clear heat and dampness.
- Direction
- Where the food sends Qi. Upward lifts, downward anchors and drains, centering steadies digestion, circulating keeps it moving.
- Organ
- Which organ systems the food reaches, from Lung and Spleen to Liver and Kidney. The same temperature can land in different places.
The chart shows what each food does. It does not tell you which pattern you are in. Two people with the same fatigue can need opposite food.
